Good evening friends. I hope you’re all having a wonderful week. This week I worked really hard in my basement working on my prayer closet. As you saw in the previous post, I had made a “War Room/Prayer room” but I just wasn’t feeling it. It was too big and a little “too comfortable” if you know what I mean. I wanted something smaller, and more intimate. So I decided that I would declutter and empty out the closet under our stairs in the basement.
I find that I needed a place to go void of distractions, away from the busy-ness of my life, a place where I could go and pray to my Father. Someplace I could cultivate my relationship with Him. I figured it might be helpful to some of you, if I pulled back the curtain and let you in on my private prayer life.
Hear the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive. 2 Chronicles 6:21
Currently I am not very good at the prayer life, but I am working really hard to get better. I spent about 30 minutes in the prayer closet this morning, with no one up yet and it was wonderful. I closed the doors and just prayed and worshiped. I read scripture, wrote scripture, did my devotional and sang along to some worship songs on my phone.
Quite literally it felt a little like when I was a little girl and would make forts! Only for grown ups!
This is a verse that I took into account after watching the movie War Room (for the 2nd time) and this time the movie had really spoken to me. I know I want to be a prayer warrior like Miss Clara. But how? Well, I am still learning, but I decided I wanted a prayer closet and I ordered Priscilla Shirer’s book “Fervent, a Woman’s Battle Plan for Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer”….and set about on making a prayer closet.
Hubby and I were at Menards the other night so I picked up a small pack of mini Christmas lights, and last night I cleaned out the entire closet. It was the perfect opportunity to declutter that closet, and not just move things around but get rid of a bunch of things we didn’t need. I now have a car full of things ready to go to donation! Here are some before photos during the declutter:
As you can see it needed cleaned out long before I did. So God’s voice on my heart had more than one motive! 🙂 I had my son come down and help me carry up the big stuff to the car, then the clothes and other items we did keep went to the other closets.
This is the finished product.
I love that I have my Grandpa’s Bibles in there too. I am thinking about getting a little chair so I can use the large shelves on the left side for a little desk. It will be easier to write that way. For now, I put one of my quilts on the floor with some spare pillows (which I think need pillow cases!)
I hope this post has inspired some of you. I hope to do more posts about what the Lord is showing me through my studies. Do you have a place in your home that is specifically for prayer? A Prayer Closet even? Please let me know in the comments!
