It’s the middle of the week Y’all! How is everyone doing? I thought this week I would type up an update on my Half Marathon training. I am also linked up this week with Diatta at Femme Fitale for Workout Wednesday. Come and join us.
The race is in 5 weeks!! Crazy right? I swear it seemed so far away when I signed up for it! 😉 I am READY for it! Bring it on (well, almost ready haha)
Training has been going well. Lately for my long runs, hubby has been driving me north of town, dropping me off and then picking me up when I end near our home. This weekend though, I will be able to run all the way home from the drop off location! I’m so excited! 11 miles this coming long run. Never in my life did I think I’d be running 11 miles. INSANITY!!
So my two 9 mile Saturdays were split by races. The first week was the St Patrick’s day 5K in Davenport. So I ran 3 there, came home and ran 6 more! Then the 2nd week was the Lucky Run 10K but that day I only ended up running the 10K. I was just done when I got home. I just wanted to relax. So then when the first 10 miler popped up I wasn’t really prepared for it. The longest I had done at once was 8 at that point. I still did pretty good I thought. Especially since that morning was the Team RWB Run As One event and I ran/walked (more walking than running) 4 miles. Then I came home, had lunch and ran 10. Again, I’m crazy I know!
Here’s the group photo from the Run as One Event
I did get some shots of my first 10 miler though. I rarely stop to take photos, but I had to for this. My first double digit run is a huge milestone!
My second 10 miler was last Saturday. It was a gorgeous day!! Short sleeves and capri pants! WOOP! The sun was shining and it was breezy, but not too terribly bad. I ran mostly the same route as before, but took a more direct route and ended up much closer to home for hubby to come and get me. The only bad thing was, my PF acted up really bad and I was almost limping when he came to pick me up 🙁
However, I did run this one in less time than the first 10 miler the Saturday before. So that made me happy. Also, hubby agreed and we signed up for Map My Run MVP and I turned on Live Tracking. So Abby and Ralph thought it was pretty cool to track my run the whole time I was out.
I need to get a PF sleeve. I just grit my teeth at the $25 price tag. Oy. Oh and speaking of prices for things…hubby is not liking the idea that I am already talking about new running shoes. It’s hard to explain the need for new running shoes to a non-runner. So I have been hunting for the best deal I can find on Brooks shoes. I know I’ll need a new pair soon, putting 100+ miles on them a month wears them out fast. I also really would like to be able to start rotating shoes before my Half Marathon next month.
The mid week runs are going well too. I do about 16 miles during the week. Yesterday the kids and I went to Planet Fitness together. I worked on legs and Abs and Ryan got his own membership! So now the kids and I can go together. I’m happy about that, and I am also happy the kids want to work out. It means a lot when what I do starts to rub off on them 🙂
While there I did a mile on the stationary bike, about a quarter mile on the Arc Trainer, Abby and I used various machines and then I did 17 flights on the stair master. It was a good workout.
Oh, and see my pretty thumbnail there? Can you tell what it is? My daughter painted cute bunnies on my nails on Saturday night so that I’d have them for Easter! So here’s a shot of me dressed up and ready for Easter service, and my nails 🙂
Easter Service was amazing as always! God really gives Pastor Arch the right lesson to preach! I always need to hear it each week! After worship we took the Annual All Girls photo outside. This is the 4th year I’ve done this. I also had to include this adorable photo of Abby and two of her girl friends from church.
Yesterday morning I started a new #SheReadsTruth Bible Study. You can read day one HERE. The story does NOT end when Jesus died on the cross. It is only the beginning. So Amazing to see what He has for me in this study.
Today I have 5 miles to run, probably in the early afternoon, or morning, as we’re supposed to see thunderstorms in the late afternoon/evening. It’s not that I mind running in the rain, I just don’t want to do it when it’s only in the 40s/50s.
I am volunteering with Team RWB for the Hawkeye 50K race this Saturday, and I’ll be there from 7:30/8:00 in the morning till 3:30 that afternoon, so I am considering switching days for my long run and running my 11 miler on Sunday. Not sure yet. I am thinking I’ll be pretty tired after being at the race all day and won’t want to run 11 miles afterwards. So that’s yet to be decided. I am pretty excited about volunteering at this race. I’m helping at the Team RWB aid station. I’ve never done that before. Hubby and Abby are also helping out! I’m sure I’ll have lots of photos to share.
How often do you switch days around in a training schedule?
Have you ever done a #SheReadsTruth Bible study?
How often do you replace your running shoes?
What’s the furthest you’ve ever run? Have you ever run an Ultra Marathon?
